Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
New Testament Greek Lexicon defines dunamis as: strength, power, ability, inherent power, power residing in a thing by virtue of its nature, or which a person or thing exerts and puts forth power for performing miracles, moral power and excellence of soul, the power and influence which belong to riches and wealth, power and resources arising from numbers, power consisting in or resting upon armies, forces, hosts.
In Acts that word dunamis is used 10 times, in reference to power, to miracles and signs and wonders.
Its not our strength or ability…its His through us. His power to keep us, to form our character, to heal and perform miracles
After the apostles were baptized with the Spirit on the Day of Pentecost, Peter and John were on their way to pray and there was a man crippled form birth, begging. Peter said, Silver and gold I do not have but what I have I give to you, in the Name of Jesus rise up and walk! And the man was healed, by the dunamis, the power of the Spirit. And when the authorities questioned Peter and John about the miracle they said it was not done by their dunamis, by their own power, but by the power of God!
In Christianity we have the power of the Spirit and point to Jesus…never to ourselves. Psychics point to themselves, contradicting the truth and teachings of the Bible, and horoscopes point to you, not to Jesus. False power, counterfeit.
Remember, the power, the miracle has to point to Jesus. Does it glorify Jesus, does it make me know Him and want to know Him more? Does it bear good fruit? Does it make me love Him more? Does it confirm the teaching of the Scripture?
The power of the Spirit sets us free, free in Jesus, free to walk with Him, in step with Him, no longer burdened by bad habits, but pursuing the grace and love of Jesus, walking in His power and testifying, witnessing to others about Him, by the way we live and talk, and act! By feeding the poor, reaching the prisoner, healing the sick.
You can be part of glorifying Jesus by the power of His Holy Spirit. After reading this, go to your secret place of prayer and ask Him to fill you and use you for His glory. Receive the dunamis of Holy Spirit!
