Pray for Our Intelligence Community
I recently listened to a long audio book by Michael Hayden, who was head of the Central Intelligence Agency for about three years, starting in May of 2006. The book made me realize what a terribly difficult job it is. In the past, I’ve prayed for Presidents, Congress and governors, but I had never once prayed for the leaders of our intelligence agencies.
A country lives or dies depending upon intelligence. For instance, the war in the Pacific against Japan turned to our favor when our intelligence services broke the Japanese code for secret messages. We knew in advance that they were going to attack Midway Island. Because of that intelligence and the bravery of our navy people our victory in the battle of Midway turned the tide of the war against Japan.
An example of bad intelligence is the invasion of Iraq based on the intelligence reports that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. No such weapons were found, trillions of dollars were spent, tens of thousands of civilians were killed, and now Iran has sway over Iraq. (Plus 4,486 of our soldiers were killed there.)
You and your family are kept alive by the success of these agencies who must stop terrorism before it happens. Because our country is facing a great crisis with North Korea, it is and will be critical to have the best intelligence as to where the nuclear warheads are stored, etc. etc. If we do not stop North Korea they will sell their nuclear weapons to terrorists, at minimum. They could detonate a warhead over the USA and fry our electrical grid with an EMP, which they have promised to do! It’s estimated 90% of us would be dead in a year if that happened—even without an invasion of foreign troops!
Derek Prince learned that we should pray that God would raise up leaders who are just and who fear the Lord. His prayer, “Raise up leaders who are just, who fear the Lord, and by which we can get the victory and You, Lord, can get the glory.” Now let us apply that prayer to each of the 17 intelligence agencies, upon which our very lives depend.
Paul taught, “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness,” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Yet, I’m giving an educated guess that you and I have never prayed for those in authority of our intelligence agencies. We must do this so that we can live. Period.
You can listen to Mike Hayden’s audio book by requesting it at your library or buy a copy at your favorite bookstore. It’s called “PLAYING TO THE EDGE: American Intelligence in the Age of Terror.” This would give you a “burden” for those in leadership in these all-important agencies.
PRAY for God to raise up the best leaders in our intelligence agencies, giving them success so that we can first of all LIVE, and secondly, live quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
I love you. God bless you.
