Jesus is royalty. He is the King.
Matthew 2:11 He was worshiped by kings–they bowed down and worshiped Him.
These guys from the east came, with a large caravan that made the entire city of Jerusalem was disturbed. Every one knew these were kings, with a large caravan asking where the King of the Jews was. They said they saw the star in the sky and knew the prophecies. How did they know? They were astronomers and theologians looking for the star, they were possibly disciples that started many years before with Daniel in Babylon.
How else do we know Jesus was royalty?
Luke 23:3 Jesus confessed He is a king-Pilate asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?” and Jesus said, “Yes, it is as you say.”
Here is Pilate, a chosen Roman official, known for extreme acts against his enemies, and he asks Jesus if He is a king. Jesus says yes. And Pilate did not want to send Jesus to the execution, but because of political pressure he had the people choose.
Hebrews 1:3-The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in Heaven.
How many of us have taken a mirror and aligned it with the sun and then reflected it to shine on something else? Maybe we even reflected the sun off our watch and onto our teacher’s face in class? Disclaimer-don’t do that.
Jesus reflected the glory of God for everyone to see. He holds everything together. He is the King of Everything…it is all held together. The stars, the planets, the rings of Saturn, the trees, the insects…He holds it all together. Its all held together by Him. In the days of Christ, it was understood when one heard this verse read, the language meant that He sealed it together…like a scroll. They would write on a scroll and roll it up, and then seal it by wax and press their ring into it signifying whose property it is, who it came from. The ring had the seal of ownership.
Or when coins are made, they are stamped with the inscription and image of the government that it belongs to. Jesus is the exact representation of God.
Revelation 1:5-Jesus is the ruler of the kings of the earth.
Every government official and person will be brought before Jesus and know He is king. The book of Philippians says that every knee will bow in heaven and earth and confess He is Lord and King. But that is not for salvation, its when everything is completed and judgment is meted out, everyone will know He is Lord and King and acknowledge He is in charge, but their decision to serve Him was only in this life.
Our loyalty is to royalty.
1. Colossians 3:1 He is seated at God’s right hand- ”Since then you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.”–our hearts are to go toward Him, our affections are to be on Him.
2. If we are in Christ, we are seated with Christ in heavenly places
Ephesians 2:6 “And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.”
because it reveals God’s grace to us and His kindness to Jesus.
This is who we are-our identity-who we are is determined by whose we are.
If we are in Jesus, we are seated with Christ, far above the spiritual entities and problems. That means that positionally we look down on problems and issues, because of what Christ did. He did this after His death and resurrection. When He sat down, we sat down, and knowing this we can rest and have peace for our souls through the trials and problems and issues of life.
And it is from His love for us that we are seated with Christ.
Ephesians 2:4-5 says, “But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in our transgressions-it is by grace you have been saved.”
And in the book of Revelation Jesus is referred to as the King of kings, which means He rules over all governments and officials in the past and present as well as the future. He is the supreme sovereign who rules above all others. We will discuss more about that in a few week.
Jesus truly is Royalty-
This week, meditate on this truth:
Our loyalty is to royalty.
